I had a friend that used Get Phit Studio and had great results. I got the information and reached out immediately. I still wasn’t sold on the program because I knew a nutrition plan may be costly.

I met with Shawn and Kathy face to face for an interest meeting. It was at this meeting I knew that GPS was the place for me. I have a medical condition called Hoshimoto’s disease – it affects my thyroid and autoimmune system. I told Shawn this during our meeting and I was blown away at his medical information and how he linked that to my diet and how I feel. He was educational and informational. I signed up that night and there was no looking back! I was nervous and wondering what I really signed up for and how was I going to stick to this!

Little did I know that the coaching I would get from Shawn and Kathy would be more than I could have ever imagined. The detailed food plans, the accountability, the encouragement and most importantly the swift kick in the rear to remember my goals. When I doubted myself or had millions of questions- they were quick to remind me of my “Why”, answer each question with patience and grace and then tell me to stop making excuses! I started eating things I would have never tried on my own and the recipes were soo good. It didn’t feel like a diet… that’s because it’s not! That’s when my thinking changed- I started looking at food as FUEL for my body. I learned how my body responds to certain foods, alcohol, sleep and exercise. I started making progress in my weight goal, but that isn’t what mattered most to me.

What mattered most was that I used my “why” (my children and my family) to focus on myself again. I am mom, a wife, currently in grad school full time pursuing my masters in school administration and working part time. Finding the balance seemed impossible, but this program allowed me to refocus on me and reminded me that if I am happy and healthy everything else falls into place naturally! I am worth it! I say this to any moms that read this- you Matter- make time for you, I know it seems selfish, but I am a better mom because I took care of myself! Even my children recognized my changes and now want to make healthy choices and exercise! Making the commitment to be a better me is the best decision I have made… and I am so thankful for GPS’s support along the way! I tell them all the time I am so grateful for what they taught me, how they coached me and most importantly how they reminded me to do this for my “WHY”!

Food is my love language and I love to bake (especially sweets) and my children and their friends have come to love and expect my homemade chocolate chip cookies when they are around.

I met with you both in the fall and after bearing my soul – Shawn told me I definitely had some “issues” lol but that with structure and accountability he felt like you could help me. I signed up for the 12 week individual nutrition program and started eating cleaner; however, the workouts were not a high priority for me.

After the first of the year (and the end of the 12 weeks) I had lost some weight……but still needed more structure and accountability. We decided an additional 12 weeks would be in my best interest. I made a commitment to try to work out more and made it a priority – and guess what? The more I came to Get Phit the more I wanted to be there….and I so look forward to seeing familiar faces there. The environment at Get Phit is so incredibly positive (I know that sounds like such a cliche) but it’s so true. I am not the most athletic or strong – and I’m kinda klutzy in the gym…….but I’m showing up – and running my own race.

I have also learned that the scales don’t define me……they are just one part of the equation. My clothes fit better……there is a little more pep in my step……and I’m proud to be headed to a more healthy me!

I was so excited when you measured me this past weekend and to have lost 18 inches and I don’t share that to brag….but I want to encourage anyone who might not being seeing results on the scale! (and when I told my daughter who is 14 that I’d lost 18 inches she looked at me funny – and said “hum…..how tall are you now then?”…..to which I replied…….4’1”!!:)

“I have always struggled with weight gain after separating from the military. Try this fad diet, do this new exercise. I have went from 179 to 200 back down to 182-then getting as high as 230. For my height that is heavy. In September 2019, I decided to get my life back on track, I didn’t really have a plan or a goal, I just knew that I needed to do this for myself and my family.

October of 2019, an old high school running buddy, challenged me to a body building competition in May of 2020. Like the knucklehead that I am I accepted. Not really having much of a direction, except for what you watch and read.

I knew I needed some serious adjustments. I had worked with Shawn and Kathy in the past, and knew I could maybe call Shawn and he might guide me. After I told him what I had done and the time restraints to get to that point, he replied “knucklehead”. Meet Ben. No, he has not been on a set meal plan……. wait…WHAT??? Yep, Ben came to us last year and asked what one thing he could do to start eating better, make better choices and feel better. So that’s just what we have been doing. We started with breakfast. When he was ready to tackle something else, then we added another step.

As you see, this step by step, slow and steady process is working. You can see as the seasons are changing, so is Ben….not just his physique (which is making amazing progress) but his mindset too!

I was sick. I had very little energy. I worried about every bite that went into my mouth. I counted every calorie, and I NEVER ate carbs (breads, crackers, pizza, etc). I weighed myself daily, and I gauged my happiness based on what the scale said. Having it say anything more than 122lbs absolutely ruined my day. I drank them constantly to fill my stomach so that I stopped feeling hungry. I was tired, depressed, unhealthy and weak.

Fast forward 14 years — I’ve learned that the scale is just a number (and quite frankly, I hate it and pay it no mind). I eat when I’m hungry, and I eat the appropriate amount of food for my activity level. When I started working with my nutrition coach last year (Shawn Michael), I was still (STILL!!) underfeeding myself. Once I fixed my nutrition, I started getting faster and stronger. I had become discouraged and apathetic about just about every aspect of my life and because of this, I let myself go and eventually found myself in a cycle of self-loathing. This journey began long before 12 weeks ago. When my dad was diagnosed with cancer the gym became my outlet. The gym was the one place I could go and focus on me and only me. I was doing bootcamps and classes BUT eating whatever I wanted sometimes only twice a day. I thought I was in shape. My dad won his fight with cancer and is whole and healthy with Jesus (kind of jealous, right?). Life changed drastically. The gym continued to be my safe place! You may look at the picture on the left and say well you were already skinny…maybe…depends on your definition…I didnt like what I saw.

Fast forward to the past 12 weeks…I started working with Shawn @getphit2 . He told me what to eat (I hated him for the first 2 weeks), how to exercise, and that I couldn’t have pizza (yet). He probably thinks we are the whiniest people ever. I began to fuel my body with healthy food (6 times a day!!!), began lifting weights, and began to develop a new mentality. I wanted pizza and burgers in the beginning, but as I learned to discipline myself, I no longer desired those foods.

Yes I cheated here and there but Shawn taught us to not settle for a cheat meal. You find the best burger in town and the best pizza in town. Here I am 12 weeks later with more knowledge on food and fitness (there’s still more to learn and know). 12 weeks stronger and #healthier and happier. Was it easy? NO!!! If people tell you it is, they are lying. Is it worth? Absolutely!

Here’s to a healthy mom, wife, and friend (people are watching, especially little ones). So, #noexscuses ! Tuesday, July 23rd, 2019 will mark one year since my second hip replacement surgery! I’ve struggled with osteoarthritis for several years. I joined GPS in Spring of 2016. Up until the day of surgery, GPS has helped me stay mobile. I don’t have enough space to talk about the people I’ve met. Everyone is so friendly and encouraging. They’ve truly become family. At end of challenge parties I was reminded several times how I didn’t know how much pain the person next to me was in. It’s what I often said to myself as I’d sprint up that darn hill and did my modified burpees.

My success is credited to the owners (previous and new) and their incredible staff of trainers! Because of their belief in me and their support, my determination had me back in studio 3 weeks post surgery doing my workouts with everyone else. I hiked Hanging Rock at just past 3 months (I didn’t let that terrifying warning sign scare me away)!

I have goals. I still can’t get the scale to that magic number and I need to work on my balance. I’m beginning to not focus on that number so much. Getting stronger and staying healthy are what keeps improving my quality of life.

“My “aha” moment… When I tried on a swim suit and I didn’t reach for the cover up! My goal was to go slow and steady so I can easily maintain. It’s working. I’m starting to wear “cute” clothes again instead of the baggy shirts and sweatpants. Yes, I know its summer but, you get what I’m saying, right!? Reaching for the sleeveless shirts, whaaaat?? Getting comfortable in my own skin again and I’m lovin’ it!

In addition, my triglycerides dropped to 53.

Booya! Last year – mostly doing cardio type workouts the lowest level was 77. This year concentrating on weights for my workouts has made the biggest impact to my overall health.”

The scales didn’t lie. I also needed to be stronger because my spouse depended on me to take care of him. I know that this is a reason many of us share. And I needed to feel better about myself. At that first class I thought, “there is no way” I can do all these exercises! I couldn’t keep up but with the support of the friends in GPS I continued to go. One of my first goals I made myself was to be able to jog around that building without stopping….and I did it! Slowly, I lost some weight and more importantly I kept coming to class! I got stronger. I lost pounds and inches, slowly but surely, and I had to fight with myself sometimes to do it. I had to also fight with what else was going on in my life. Losing a family member, especially a spouse, changes everything. But the one thing that helped was knowing that I had the support of so many people at GPS. Now I am definitely feeling better and stronger. Yes, I’ve lost some weight and inches (which is great and it helps me focus) but so have a lot of others. I think the biggest changes are what is going on inside my head. I know I’m not perfect, but its ok, no one is! I realize there are other milestones besides the number on the scale that make me feel good. I’ve had people tell me how good I look, including medical professionals. I’m having a great time exercising, learning to use weights and developing some muscle. I’m enjoying surprising myself, when I can do some exercise I thought I wouldn’t be able to do or pick up a heavier weight. I’m enjoying meeting new people. I’m enjoying buying cute exercise clothes. I’m trying new things. I’m smiling more! I’m enjoying life. And, I feel better!!! As a wise man (Shawn) told me recently priorities change. On April 19th, I decided I was tired of being unhealthy, but I didn’t want to do another diet. I really just hate that word. I WAS READY FOR A TRUE LIFE STYLE CHANGE! I had heard about Get Phit Studio in Burlington that offered a healthy way of living through exercise and clean eating. I wish I could have had a pain monitor attached to my body from when I began to now. It would blow people away how much I’ve improved. Is my pain completely gone, NO, but has it improved, YES! When you wake up every morning between a 5 & 6 and rise throughout the day, you are thrilled to have many days waking up at a 2 and rising throughout the day. I now end days at a 6, instead of starting at a 6. I invite all my friends that live in the Alamance County area to join me at Get Phit Studios2.0. I promise you won’t be disappointed. I’m officially down 50lbs & 30 inches overall. Whatever you do, don’t call this a diet, that is temporary, it is a life style change, which is a journey. I may not have started my weight loss journey with Get Phit Studio 2.0 but the year I’ve been going has been amazing!! I describe it as an “addictive atmosphere” to people that ask me why I’m struggling to get out of my chair the day after class or why I’m NOT eating the yummy drug rep catered lunches at work. The Get Phit Studio 2.0 team have a way of making you wanna come back for more.

Yes usually come back for more pain but always good pain! Haha Yes there have been times I’ve fallen off the wagon and had set backs but I always find myself craving those encouraging words and kick ass work outs. Today I look back, look back only to see growth. I decided to start making big changes in my life about a year ago. I started going to the gym, eating better but just couldn’t make it work.

I was setting unachievable goals in record timing. Day in, day out, no real results. I was so sick and tired of being sick and tired, of my poor choices, eating habits… all of it. I know God has opened so many doors for me to make this all possible. Every step of the way I fought, but God has bigger plans then we think! My mom convinced me to try out Get Phit Studio (GPS), where I was challenged and supported. I soon met Shawn and Kathy. My mom and I stayed late after a class and became huge fans of these loving people. I knew Kathy was the one.. haha. Kathy was so supportive, understanding, and truly cared about my struggles. She has been dedicated to my success, even when I wasn’t sure. Through my time with Kathy as my trainer I had a lot of ups and downs. All the problems I solved by food, had to be replaced with something else. Go figure I became pretty admit about working out. I started learning more about myself and that is where real progress began. I was able to push myself and see the results. I have lost a total of 25 lbs, and still going. This journey has been like a dream to me. Sometimes I feel like I’m going to wake up and look in the mirror and there will stand that 300 pound guy. I still have a hard time believing that I was capable of such a feat. Get phit studio and the specific culture surrounding it is the secret to my success. I owe my success to this system. I am never going to be the loudest guy in the room.

I have always let my results speak for me no matter what I’m doing. Like I’ve said many times before I love this place and everyone involved.

Most of you know I have lost and maintained an over 100 pound weight loss. There is no magic pill. You do have to work at it. Don’t you think you are worth the effort? I do.


I’ve been working out at Get Fit Studio for the last couple years…& when I actually stuck to the suggested lifestyle changes, I lost 28lbs and 13 inches in 9 weeks. Since then, I’ve half-assed it and gained back part of that…but am still almost 30 pounds lighter than my heaviest weight (fall of 2015). If you want to lose weight OR you’re already skinny but want to get stronger or more in shape, this is for you!

I have pushed myself to do things I’d never have believed I could do. The trainers will help you modify EVERY exercise if you need to modify them. The meal plan is doable, and maintainable…nothing fancy or special anything….just food.

Hi my name is Angela and I’m 40yrs old. I started Get Phit Studios in April 2016. I contacted Jen Hendershott about the challenges I had plenty of questions I needed answered. The day I met Jen I sat at the table in front of her and I cried, because I did not like myself.

I had tried so many things to try and lose weight and it was only a temporary fix. I always gained my weight back so I was very hesitant about trying something else. But this was the best decision I’ve ever made. It’s easy to follow eat off the meal plan and go to the classes and exercise at home.

When I joined I weighed 208lbs I am now at 147lbs. I went from wearing a size 16/18 pants and 2XL shirts to wearing size 5 pants and S/M shirts. I never thought I would ever be able to get where I’m at. I have now set new goals such as toning more and maybe losing about 5lbs, but I can say I LOVE myself now. This is a real lifestyle change not a diet and it works. GPS helped me change my life and I love this community and her whole staff for everything they have done.

I am so thankful for Get Phit Studio and the program which has helped me change my lifestyle and the health issues I was fighting before I started my first challenge in January 2016. I saw my doctor and I am no longer a Diabetic my AC1 numbers have stayed great for well over a year at 5.3!! Without medicine. I no longer have High blood pressure or Cholesterol issues.
